A little bit about me:
I have been practicing meditation and trance states for over 30 years. I am what I might call a naive journeyman. Most of my learning and skills have come from direct experience through my own exploration. When I came home from the woods in 2022, I set about to learn meditation more formally and also began teaching. My “formal” learning comes mostly from books! Although it’s been a privilege to meet and work with several local adepts and organizations. I also studied for a 5 day intensive at the Marina Abramovic Institute in Greece.
I teach meditation from a trauma informed, secular viewpoint. I study mindfulness primarily at the intersection of science and spirit. For me, they are using two different vocabularies to describe the same feelings, experiences and tools. I love to see how science’s recent explorations into meditation prove so many beneficial attributes. Of course, we have known this for thousands of years thanks to the lineage of spiritual guides who have passed down this sacred knowledge. I enjoy teaching both aspects of mindfulness, including clear science and honoring the many traditions which support this practice.
Some modern authors who deeply inform my viewpoint are Pema Chodron, Oliver Sachs, Leonard Mlodinov, Eckhart Tolle, Jacoby Ballard, and James Nestor. I’ve recently been intrigued with Deepok Chopra’s quantum healing studies. In my personal experience, I feel I have been altered by supplication to nature on a quantum level which has facilitated my healing from addiction, a brain tumor, and complex PTSD.
Through my explorations, I have found a path that resonates with my years of personal discovery: the Aghora. I walk the Left Hand Path. Many spiritual paths have this idea of left and right hand paths, in simplest terms, there are two paths to salvation/nirvana/awakening/liberation/samadhi. One path is through purity of mind and action (think Jesus archetype) and the other, the Left Hand Path, is through ‘filth’ of mind and action (think tantra, alchemists, whirling dervishes, shamans). The Aghori meditates upon death and taboo to extremes, I resonate strongly with this and talk about it occasionally on my substack. If you are interested in this path and looking for a guide, please reach out! I’m at nettiezan@gmail.com.
I believe deeply in the power of meditation to improve your life! It has been singularly impactful in my own. I have come to know myself so intimately, face and befriend my deepest fears, heal wounds, bring peace to my mind, and extend radical compassion into the world.
Be welcome to any of my offerings!
